Sessions
Day 1: May 1, 2023
Africa Forward Training and Capacity Development:
A new narrative is emerging in the field of African social entrepreneurship, challenging the dominant neocolonial belief that non-African expertise is necessary for success. This false narrative ignores the abundance of leadership skills and talent within the continent that can effectively address systemic issues faced by Africans. A paradigmatic shift is needed to recognize and highlight the capabilities of African social entrepreneurs without resorting to tokenization.
Day 2: May 2, 2023
Africa Forward Changing Narratives:
The social enterprise ecosystem in Africa requires greater support from local governments in order to fully realize its potential in addressing key systemic issues. By mapping the ecosystem of NGOs and social entrepreneurs, local governments can better understand the achievements and needs of this robust sector, and therefore provide the necessary resources for it to thrive.
Day 3: May 3, 2023
Africa Forward Funding Pillar:
In Africa, the majority of funding for social entrepreneurship is granted to non-African entrepreneurs and organizations. This perpetuates power dynamics reminiscent of the colonial era. To bring about effective systems change in Africa, it is necessary to allocate funding directly to African organizations.
Day 4: May 4, 2023
Africa Forward: Job Creation and Career Counselling:
In what is expected to be Africa’s century, social entrepreneurs can play a catalytic role in driving inclusive and sustainable economic development on the continent. This session brings together public, private and social enterprise leaders to explore how partnerships can unlock this potential and create sustainable jobs for Africans.
Day 5: May 5, 2023
Africa Forward Ecosystem Development:
The importance of collaboration between various sectors and structures to advance Sustainable Development Goals is widely recognized. Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) are in a unique position to facilitate such collaboration. This session will focus on sharing the experience and impact of the exclusive partnership model of the Blood: Water organization.
