The Nigerian job market, across all sectors, faces many difficulties due to economic instability and layoffs. According to a recent report called the KPMG Global Economy Outlook Report, H1 2023, the number of people looking for jobs will increase in 2023 because of slower economic growth and Nigeria’s inability to accommodate the four to five million graduates that enter the Nigerian job market each year.
The surge in job seekers, combined with a decline in startup opportunities, has created a daunting task for individuals seeking employment. Furthermore, Nigeria's job market challenges have intensified with a wave of layoffs and mounting concerns about the risk of AI replacing people's jobs. Many individuals are now worried about the uncertainty of their employment prospects and the potential impact of automation on their livelihoods.
