Hello Venturer,
We all hate cockroaches, and our reasons differ from one another. For some, it’s their dirtiness; for others, it’s their sheer ability to fly. My least favourite trait in them is arguably their most remarkable: their abject refusal to die. I was angry yet thrilled when I found that they could live for a whole week without their heads. They just always come back!
The gender inclusion topic is very similar to this insect. No matter how many times we try to squash it, it stays alive. Think about the African tech ecosystem, for example. We’re witnessing more success than ever across several subsectors. Most people hear about them and are inspired to solve more problems with technology. Yet, women founders got only 2.3% of startup funding in 2023.
It’s International Women’s Day. And as we celebrate women and ask them to be inspired, we shouldn’t forget to finally this inclusion cockroach to rest by funding them. Have a great weekend!
