The Federal Government of Nigeria has confirmed that the 2023 National Population and Housing Census will commence on May 3rd 2023 and end on May 5th 2023. While there are concerns and scepticism surrounding the exercise, an accurate census could bring significant potential economic benefits to Nigeria.
One of the primary benefits could be the provision of valuable data on Nigeria’s population size, demographics, and distribution. This information is critical as it would aid policymakers and government officials to make informed decisions about resource allocation, infrastructure development, and social services provision.
An accurate census could further provide an accurate tax base for the government, leading to an increase in tax revenue. It could help identify areas requiring more resources in healthcare, education, and housing, create new business opportunities, and increase tax revenue. It could also improve Nigeria's international standing and demonstrate the country's commitment to achieving Sustainable Development Goals.

The results showed that a well-conducted census in Nigeria could have significant economic benefits, including improved resource allocation for infrastructure, healthcare, and social services, as well as providing reliable data for businesses and investors. This highlights the importance of conducting a detailed census to help Nigeria develop and grow.
