Brewing hope ☕
#217: Just because it’s hard to notice the silver linings during dark times, that doesn’t mean there aren’t any.
Hello Venturer,
How's your weekend shaping up? I'd love to start this newsletter on a high note, but as a Nigerian, it's impossible to ignore the "elephant in the room" or perhaps we should say, the "gorilla in the room." Over the past two days, Nigeria has seen one of the most perplexing protests in its history. The demonstrations have been marked by a mix of peaceful protests and more intense actions, reflecting the deep-seated frustration and anger among the populace.
Nigeria isn't alone in this wave of unrest. Two days ago, Ghanaians also took to the streets in large numbers to protest against economic difficulties, echoing the sentiments of their Nigerian counterparts. And of course, who can forget the Kenyan protest which some might say inspired the string of protests the continent is experiencing today.
One has to admit, though, that the resilience of Africans fighting for a brighter future is nothing short of inspiring. It sparks a wave of hope, one that I've heard can be contagious. This is what happened with Tami Loehrs. After a visit to Rwanda, Tami rediscovered the hope she needed and founded Silverbacks Coffee. Interestingly, her inspiration came from the country's endangered silverback gorillas, known for their remarkable resilience. This week we look at how Silverbacks Coffee is building a future for Rwanda’s Silverbacks one cup of coffee at a time.
