Africa's creators economy! 📱💰
The creator economy is one of Africa's biggest employers of labour. Young Nigerians have turned what was once considered 'informal work' and hobbies into a viable industry, creating employment. They have become largely responsible for exporting Africa's content to the rest of the world.Â
The global creator economy is estimated to be worth over $20 billion. The sector has contributed immensely to Africa's economic development. It has contributed well over 6.1% to the global GDP, averaging between 2% and 7% of national GDPs worldwide.
African creators can make a living due to the increased use of mobile phones and the internet. However, intellectual property theft and infrastructural issues restrict the creativity of African content creators.Â
Across experience levels and content types, creators consistently face three challenges: growing an audience, finding enough time for everything, and knowing how to monetize their work.
